In a 17-second clip from the debate went viral on ‘X’ (formerly Twitter), where Tiwari was heard comparing the renowned wrestler to a student who fails an exam but continues to justify their preparation. This analogy sparked widespread outrage among users, who deemed the comparison insensitive and disrespectful to Phogat’s achievements
The backlash was swift and severe, with numerous users criticizing the channel’s stance and demanding an apology.
Facing mounting pressure, Tiwari took to X to clarify her position. She expressed her shock and disappointment over India’s and Phogat’s loss, emphasizing that her intention was not to offend anyone. The anchor apologized for her earlier statement and retracted her comments.
