New Delhi: In a move that surprised many in the Malayalam media landscape, M V Nikesh Kumar, the Editor-in-Chief of Reporter TV, announced his resignation on Monday. This decision marks the end of a remarkable 28-year career in journalism for Kumar, who will now pursue a new challenge – a career in politics.
The announcement came during a live program on Reporter TV itself. Kumar, a familiar face to viewers across Kerala, addressed his decision, stating, “This departure from the media field is part of my decision to become active in politics, motivated by a long-standing desire to serve the public.”
A stalwart in the Malayalam news industry, Kumar’s journey began as a news anchor. He honed his craft at leading channels like Asianet and Indiavision before taking the helm at Reporter TV as its Managing Director. The channel, known for its commitment to investigative journalism and insightful reporting, thrived under his leadership.
