New Delhi: Uber, the global ride-hailing giant, has introduced a unique initiative called #UberReads to encourage reading among commuters in Delhi. The campaign involves transforming its fleet of electric shuttle buses into mobile libraries, offering passengers a curated selection of books from Penguin Random House India.
As part of its efforts to reduce traffic congestion, Uber has been expanding its shuttle bus services in the city. With #UberReads, the company aims to create a more engaging and enriching commuting experience for passengers.
The electric shuttle buses, equipped with air conditioning and pre-booked seats, offer a comfortable environment for reading. Passengers can choose from a variety of book genres, including fiction, biographies, self-help, and mysteries. After finishing a book, riders are encouraged to return it to the bus for others to enjoy.

Gaurav Shrinagesh, CEO of Penguin Random House India, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership. “Reading has the power to transform lives, and we believe that making books accessible to people on the go is essential,” he said. “We are excited to collaborate with Uber on this innovative initiative and bring the joy of reading to commuters in Delhi.”
The #UberReads campaign will run for a month, with buses operating on popular commute routes in the city. To book an Uber Shuttle trip, passengers can use the Uber app, select the “Shuttle” option, choose their preferred route and pick-up time, and make a cashless payment.
Uber hopes that #UberReads will encourage more people to choose shared transportation and rediscover the pleasure of reading.
