New Delhi: In a groundbreaking move, iconic motorcycle manufacturer Royal Enfield has officially ventured into the electric vehicle (EV) segment. The company unveiled its first electric bike models, the classic-styled Flying Flea C6 and the scrambler-styled Flying Flea S6, under its new electric vehicle brand, Flying Flea.
Eicher Motors MD, Siddhartha Lal, expressed the company’s commitment to disruption in the EV market. “We’re not just throwing dice and hoping for the best. We believe in this as the starting point of a growing family,” he said.
Royal Enfield plans to source battery cells externally while producing other components like battery packs and motors in-house. The company is also investing heavily in research and development, with a dedicated team of over 200 engineers in India and the UK.
To support its EV ambitions, Royal Enfield is establishing a new EV manufacturing plant in Chennai. Additionally, the company has invested in Barcelona-based Stark Future, renowned for its advanced off-road electric motorcycles.

Royal Enfield CEO, B Govindarajan, emphasized the in-house development of all aspects of the connected electric motorcycles, including product strategy, technical components, software, and market strategy.
While Royal Enfield currently dominates the middleweight motorcycle segment globally, its foray into electric mobility signifies a significant step towards a sustainable future.
The company’s strong brand reputation and loyal customer base position it well to capitalize on the growing demand for electric vehicles. As the automotive industry shifts towards electrification, Royal Enfield’s entry into the EV segment is poised to reshape the landscape of electric motorcycles.
