New Delhi: Public broadcaster Prasar Bharati has officially launched its highly anticipated over-the-top (OTT) platform, “Waves,” at the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa today. The platform, touted as “Waves – Family Entertainment Ki Nayi Lehar” (New Wave of Family Entertainment), is now available for download on both Android and iOS devices.
Waves offers a diverse range of content, including around 40 live channels featuring news, entertainment, and regional programming. Viewers can access popular channels from networks like B4U, ABZY, SAB Group, and 9X Media, alongside major news outlets such as India Today, News Nation, Republic, ABP News, News24, and NDTV India. All Doordarshan and Akashvani channels are also included. However, some prominent broadcasters are notably absent from the platform’s initial lineup.
The platform boasts a rich library of movies, including titles like “Aarakshan,” “One Day,” “The Impossible,” and “Alice Darling.” Waves also offers TV shows, games, and a dedicated live events section, promising a comprehensive entertainment experience for users.

Prasar Bharati’s entry into the OTT space introduces a unique revenue-sharing model. Participating broadcasters will receive 65% of the advertising revenue generated on the platform, while Prasar Bharati retains the remaining 35%. This attractive model aims to entice more content creators to join Waves and bolster its content library.
The launch of Waves marks a significant step in Prasar Bharati’s digital expansion strategy. By leveraging the growing popularity of OTT platforms, the public broadcaster aims to reach a wider audience and strengthen its presence in the digital media landscape.
