Netflix Secures Exclusive U.S. Rights to FIFA Women’s World Cup 2027 and 2031

Netflix has acquired exclusive U.S. streaming rights for the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2027 and 2031, marking a significant shift in how the tournament will be broadcast.
This is a landmark moment for sports media rights," says FIFA President Gianni Infantino.

New Delhi: In a groundbreaking move, Netflix has acquired exclusive U.S. streaming rights for the FIFA Women’s World Cup in 2027 and 2031. This marks the first time a streaming platform has secured rights to this prestigious global sporting event, solidifying Netflix’s entry into major live sports broadcasting.

The 2027 tournament will take place in Brazil from June 24 to July 25, featuring 32 teams vying for the coveted title. While the host nation for the 2031 World Cup is yet to be determined, Netflix plans to enhance the viewing experience with studio shows, expert commentary, and engaging entertainment surrounding the matches.

Furthermore, Netflix will produce original documentaries that delve into the inspiring journeys of rising stars in women’s football, showcasing the sport’s growing global popularity and highlighting the dedication and talent of the athletes.

This strategic move by Netflix builds upon its recent successes in live sports broadcasting, including the record-breaking viewership for the Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson fight and the Katie Taylor vs. Amanda Serrano match, which became the most-watched women’s sports event in U.S. history.

Bela Bajaria, Netflix’s Chief Content Officer, expressed her excitement, stating, “Our record-breaking success with Amanda Serrano vs. Katie Taylor demonstrated the massive appetite for women’s sports and live programming… Bringing this iconic tournament to Netflix is not just about streaming matches — it’s about celebrating the players, the culture, and the passion driving the global rise of women’s sports.”

FIFA President Gianni Infantino echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the significance of this partnership: “As a marquee brand and FIFA’s new long-term partner, Netflix has shown a very strong level of commitment to growing women’s football… This agreement sends a strong message about the real value of the FIFA Women’s World Cup and the global women’s game.”

The Netflix-FIFA agreement encompasses broadcasts in multiple languages, including English and Spanish, further expanding the reach and accessibility of the tournament to a global audience. This partnership not only signifies a major milestone for women’s football but also positions Netflix as a key player in the evolving landscape of sports media rights.
