New Delhi: Sony Pictures Networks India (SPNI) has announced the appointment of Gaurav Banerjee as its new Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer (CEO), effective on or before August 26, 2024, pending regulatory approvals. Banerjee will succeed NP Singh, who leaves after an illustrious 25-year tenure.
Banerjee joins SPNI from Disney Star India, where he served as Head of Content for Hindi Entertainment & Disney+ Hotstar and Business Head for various key divisions. His journey in media began at Aaj Tak, where he started as an assistant producer and anchor, later moving to Star News to produce and anchor Prime Time News shows. Banerjee holds a master’s degree in filmmaking and T.V. production from Jamia Millia Islamia University and an undergraduate degree in history from St. Stephens, Delhi.
Expressing his enthusiasm for the new role, Banerjee stated, “I am excited to lead talented teams as we explore new frontiers in original programming, enhance viewer experiences, expand our distribution footprint across India, and significantly boost revenues. Together, we will set new benchmarks in entertainment and deliver exceptional value to our audiences and stakeholders.”
