New Delhi: Swiggy Instamart, the quick commerce platform, has unveiled its fourth annual “How India Swiggy’d” report, offering a fascinating glimpse into the evolving consumer preferences and spending habits on its platform in 2024. The report highlights the increasing reliance on ultra-fast deliveries for a wide range of products, from groceries and daily essentials to electronics and even luxury items.
Delhi emerged as a major consumer of instant noodles, spending a staggering Rs 60 crore on the popular snack throughout the year. This underscores the growing demand for convenient and easily prepared meals, particularly in bustling urban centers.
The report revealed a diverse range of consumer behaviors across India. In Dehradun, residents rivaled Delhi in spending, exceeding Rs 20 lakhs each on Swiggy Instamart. Atta, milk, and oil consistently ranked among the top-selling items nationwide, highlighting the continued importance of kitchen essentials in daily life.
Interestingly, the report also showcased the impact of technology and changing lifestyles. A Chennai resident spent a remarkable Rs 1,25,454 on electronics and appliances, demonstrating the increasing reliance on online platforms for tech purchases.

Swiggy Instamart’s data also highlighted the impact of festivals and seasonal trends. Diwali witnessed a surge in demand for brooms and poker chips in Delhi, while Dhanteras saw an Ahmedabad resident splurge Rs 8,32,032 on gold coins. Valentine’s Day proved to be a particularly romantic occasion, with 307 roses ordered per minute across the platform.
The report also shed light on regional variations in consumer behavior. Bengaluru emerged as a leader in puja essentials and party supplies, while Mumbai topped the list for umbrella and raincoat orders. Vizag saw a significant demand for toys, reflecting the importance of play in children’s lives.
Beyond consumer spending, the report also touched upon interesting social trends. Bengaluru led the nation in underwear purchases, while Hyderabad and Bengaluru emerged as the most eco-conscious cities, with a higher preference for “Deliver Without Bag” options.
Swiggy Instamart continues to expand its reach, now operational in 54 cities across India. With its diverse product range and focus on ultra-fast delivery, the platform is well-positioned to cater to the evolving needs of Indian consumers in the ever-growing world of e-commerce.
