‘From Silicon Valley to Indus Valley’: Pan IIT Alumni Chairman Urges IITians to Return

NEW DELHI:- Pan IIT Alumni India has strongly backed the government’s growing focus on deep-tech innovation and self-reliance, calling on IITians, corporate leaders, and researchers to actively contribute towards India’s emerging quantum computing, semiconductor, and artificial intelligence ecosystem.

In a statement issued on National Technology Day, Prabhat Kumar described the launch of the National Quantum Mission, the SHAKTI policy framework, and the government’s ₹1.2 lakh crore R&D allocation as a defining moment for India’s technological transformation. He credited Narendra Modi for positioning India at the forefront of next-generation technologies including quantum computing, AI, and semiconductor innovation.

Addressing IIT alumni across the world, Prabhat Kumar urged professionals working in academia, startups, and global technology firms to shift focus from traditional service-led growth towards deep-tech research and indigenous innovation. He highlighted areas such as quantum algorithms, post-quantum cryptography, advanced materials, and semiconductor fabrication as critical sectors that will define the future global technology landscape.

In a strong appeal aimed at the Indian technology diaspora, he encouraged IITians to return and contribute directly to India’s innovation ecosystem, describing the country’s current phase as a transition “from Silicon Valley to the new Indus Valley.”

The statement also urged corporate India to support the National Quantum Mission through funding research chairs, backing deep-tech incubators, and enabling IIT alumni to return to research through sabbatical programmes. Kumar emphasised that corporate participation would be critical in transforming India’s scientific ambitions into globally competitive innovation ecosystems.

Apart from technology and research, the statement included a broader economic appeal to industry leaders to adopt work-from-home and hybrid work models wherever feasible. According to Kumar, such measures could contribute towards fuel conservation and help strengthen economic resilience amid ongoing global uncertainties.

The remarks come at a time when India is aggressively positioning itself as a global deep-tech and semiconductor manufacturing hub, with increasing policy support, R&D investments, and institutional focus on strategic technologies expected to shape the next phase of economic and technological growth.
