New Delhi: In a landmark victory for the fight against digital piracy, ZEE Entertainment Enterprises Ltd. (ZEEL) has secured a groundbreaking “Dynamic+” John Doe order from the Delhi High Court. This sweeping order grants ZEEL unprecedented authority to protect its vast content library, including movies, TV shows, and ZEE5’s OTT content, from online infringement.
This innovative legal approach marks a significant advancement in Indian copyright law. Unlike traditional John Doe orders that require separate court approvals for each new infringing website, the “Dynamic+” order empowers ZEEL to directly notify government authorities and Internet Service Providers (ISPs) to block newly identified rogue websites. This streamlined process ensures swift action against piracy, significantly enhancing the speed and efficiency of enforcement.
The court’s directive includes several key measures:

- Immediate Blocking: The initial order restrains 103 rogue websites that were illegally streaming ZEEL’s content.
- Dynamic Notification: ZEEL can now directly notify the Department of Telecommunications (DoT), Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), and ISPs to block new infringing sites without needing further court orders.
- Expanded Scope: This order extends beyond the typical scope of live sporting events, enabling ZEEL to protect its entire entertainment catalog.
This dynamic framework allows ZEEL to proactively combat piracy across any infringing sites identified in the future, setting a new industry standard for digital copyright enforcement. By safeguarding its digital assets, ZEEL is ensuring the longevity of high-quality digital entertainment for its diverse audience and fostering a safer online environment for content creators.
