IFFI 2024 Unveils Debut Director Award Category

The 55th International Film Festival of India (IFFI) is set to shine a spotlight on emerging Indian talent with the introduction of the 'Best Debut Director of Indian Feature Film' award.

New Delhi: The International Film Festival of India (IFFI) is putting a spotlight on the future of Indian cinema with the introduction of a brand new award category: Best Debut Director of Indian Feature Film. This exciting addition to the 55th edition, taking place from November 20th to 28th, 2024, aims to celebrate the creativity and diverse voices of emerging filmmakers.

Five Remarkable Debuts to Compete

A jury of esteemed film and arts professionals meticulously selected five standout debut films from a pool of 117 entries. These films represent a vibrant tapestry of Indian languages and perspectives, promising a thrilling showcase of fresh storytelling:

  • Boong (Manipuri): Directed by Lakshmipriya Devi, this film delves into a unique narrative, offering a glimpse into Manipuri cinema.
  • Gharat Ganpati (Marathi): A family drama co-written and directed by Navjyot Bandiwadekar, Gharat Ganpati promises to explore the complexities of familial bonds.
  • Mikka Bannada Hakki (Bird of a Different Feather) (Kannada): This directorial debut by actor Manohara K has already garnered international acclaim, winning Best Actor at the Shanghai Film Festival. Based on Sonia S’ memoir, the film promises an emotionally charged story.
  • Razakar (Silent Genocide of Hyderabad) (Telugu): Yata Satyanarayana’s directorial debut, Razakar, tackles a historical subject and promises a powerful cinematic experience.
  • Thanupp (The Cold) (Malayalam): Directed by Ragesh Narayanan, Thanupp explores themes likely to resonate with audiences seeking a thought-provoking experience.
