New Delhi: In a significant move to boost local content and create new jobs, the Indian government has approved the expansion of private FM radio services to 234 previously uncovered cities. This decision is expected to revolutionize the radio landscape in these areas and bring a wide range of benefits to local communities.
The Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has given the green light for the third batch of e-auctions for 730 FM radio channels in these new cities. The estimated reserve price for these channels is a substantial Rs. 784.87 crore.

Key Highlights of the Expansion:

A Wide Range of Cities Covered The list of cities included in the expansion is diverse, covering various states and regions across India. Notably, many of the selected cities are in aspirational districts and LWE-affected areas. The government aims to use FM radio as a tool for development and to bridge the digital divide in these regions.
