New Delhi: In a significant move to empower Indian digital news portals, Prasar Bharati, India’s public broadcaster, has launched PB-SHABD, a one-stop platform offering free access to verified news content in various formats.
What is PB-SHABD?
PB-SHABD stands for Prasar Bharati – Shared Audio-Visuals for Broadcast and Dissemination. Launched in March 2024, it’s a news sharing service designed to provide media organizations with a rich repository of daily news feeds. This includes:
- Text: Articles and news reports
- Video: News clips and footage
- Audio: Soundbites and recordings
- Photos: Images and visuals
Key Features of PB-SHABD
- Extensive Network: PB-SHABD leverages the vast network of over 1500 reporters, correspondents, and stringers from Doordarshan (DD) and All India Radio (AIR). This ensures comprehensive news coverage across India.
- Multilingual Content: News is uploaded daily in all major Indian languages, catering to a wider audience.
- Logo-Free Content: Media houses can use the content without any logos or credits required, making integration seamless.
- Live Feeds: PB-SHABD offers exclusive live coverage of major events like national award ceremonies, press briefings, and political rallies – all logo-free.
- Media Repository (Coming Soon): An archive library is being developed to allow access to rare and historical footage from Doordarshan and Akashvani archives.

Free Access Until March 2025
Digital news portals can register for PB-SHABD services for free until March 2025. This makes it an attractive proposition for established and emerging news organizations.
Eligibility for YouTube-Based News Portals
News portals on YouTube need to meet specific criteria to qualify:
- Minimum subscriber base (English/Hindi: 100,000, Regional Languages: 50,000)
- Verified YouTube account
- Established for at least one year
- Consistent content upload (at least 1 video per month, 5 videos in the last month)
Registration Process
For registration, digital news portals can visit the PB-SHABD portal (https://shabd.prasarbharati.org/) and fill out a simple online form. YouTube-based portals will require additional verification after completing a digital proforma.
