Meta Bans Russian State Media Networks

Meta, the parent company of Facebook and Instagram, has taken a decisive step to combat the spread of Russian state-sponsored propaganda on its platforms.
Facebook owner Meta has banned RT, Rossiya Segodnya, and other Russian state media outlets, alleging their use of deceptive tactics to carry out influence operations on its platforms.

New Delhi: Meta, the parent company of Facebook and Instagram, has announced a ban on Russian state media networks, including RT and Rossiya Segodnya. The company cited the outlets’ use of deceptive tactics to conduct influence operations while evading detection on its platforms.

In a statement released on Monday, September 17, 2024, Meta explained that its decision to ban these networks was based on a careful evaluation of their activities. “After thorough consideration, we expanded our ongoing enforcement against Russian state media outlets,” the company said. “Rossiya Segodnya, RT and other related entities are now prohibited from our apps globally due to their foreign interference activity.”
