New Delhi: In a concerted effort to combat the growing menace of online scams, the Indian government and Meta have joined forces to launch the “Scam se Bacho” campaign. This initiative aims to educate and empower citizens to protect themselves from the increasing number of cyber frauds that have been plaguing the country.

The campaign is a collaborative effort involving key ministries, including the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB), and the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C). It aligns with the government’s broader commitment to enhancing cyber safety and addressing the rising cases of online scams.

Sanjay Jaju, Secretary, Information and Broadcasting, extended his support to Meta’s “Scam se Bacho” campaign, emphasizing its timeliness and importance in safeguarding Indian citizens from the growing threat of online scams.

During the launch event, the I&B secretary highlighted India’s remarkable digital growth under the Digital India initiative, which has propelled the country to become a global leader in UPI transactions. However, this rapid digitalization has also led to a surge in cyber frauds, with 1.1 million cases reported in 2023 alone.

The “Scam Se Bacho” campaign is more than just an awareness drive; it aims to create a national movement that empowers Indian citizens with the knowledge and tools to protect themselves from cyber threats. The campaign leverages Meta’s global expertise to educate users about common scams, provide tips on how to identify and avoid them, and encourage responsible online behavior.

“Our goal is simple but powerful: to create a culture of digital safety and vigilance,” said an Official. “By empowering every Indian to protect themselves from cyber threats, we can ensure that our digital progress is matched by robust digital security.”
