The Ayush Ministry has banned misleading advertisements promoting ASU&H drugs, warning that such claims can endanger public health.
The Union Ayush Ministry has cracked down on misleading advertisements promoting Ayurveda, Siddha, Unani, and Homeopathy drugs, emphasizing the importance of evidence-based claims and medical supervision.

New Delhi: The Union Ayush Ministry has taken a stern stance against misleading advertisements promoting Ayurveda, Siddha, Unani, and Homeopathy (ASU&H) drugs. In a public notice issued on Tuesday, the ministry declared that any advertisement claiming “miraculous or supernatural effects” for the treatment of diseases using these traditional medicines is illegal.

The ministry emphasized that such advertisements can pose a serious threat to public health by spreading false and unverified claims. It clarified that it does not certify or approve any ASU&H company or its products, nor does it grant licenses for their manufacture or sale.

The licensing of ASU&H drugs is regulated by the state and Union Territory Licensing Authorities. The ministry stressed that any advertisement that promotes these drugs with exaggerated or miraculous claims violates the provisions of the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940, and the Drugs and Magic Remedies (Objectionable Advertisements) Act, 1954.

The ministry also highlighted the importance of consulting with registered medical practitioners of the respective Ayush systems before using ASU drugs that contain Schedule El drugs. These drugs should be consumed under medical supervision, as indicated on the product labels.

The public is advised to avoid self-diagnosis and self-medication with ASU&H drugs. Any objectionable advertisements, false claims, or fake medicines should be reported to the concerned State Licensing Authority or the Ministry of Ayush for necessary action.
