New Delhi: The Ministry of Information & Broadcasting announced the winners of the prestigious 70th National Film Awards on Friday, August 16th, 2024. The awards celebrate excellence in Indian cinema, recognizing achievements in filmmaking across various categories.

Here are some of the highlights:

  • Best Feature Film: Aattam (The Play), directed by Anand Ekarshi (Malayalam)
  • Best Actor: Rishab Shetty for his performance in Kantara (Kannada)
  • Best Actress (Joint): Nithya Menen for Thiruchitrambalam (Tamil) and Manasi Parekh for Kutch Express (Gujarati)
  • Best Director: Sooraj R. Barjatya for Uunchai (Hindi)
  • Best Supporting Actor: Pavan Raj Mallhotra for Fouja (Haryanvi)
  • Best Supporting Actress: Neena Gupta for Uunchai (Hindi)
  • Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment: Kantara (Kannada)
  • Best Film in AVGC (Animation, Visual Effects Gaming & Comic): Brahmastra – Part 1: Shiva, directed by Ayan Mukerji (Hindi)
  • Best Book on Cinema: Kishore Kumar: The Ultimate Biography by Anirudha Bhattacharjee & Parthiv Dhar

South Indian Films Shine:

This year’s awards saw a significant presence of South Indian cinema, with films from various regional languages like Kannada, Malayalam, Tamil, and Marathi bagging top honors.
