New Delhi: In a move signaling international expansion, Zee Entertainment Enterprises, a leading media house in India, has announced the establishment of a subsidiary in Kenya. This comes even as the company undergoes internal restructuring.
Zee Entertainment, spearheaded by Subhash Chandra, informed the Bombay Stock Exchange last week about the formation of Zee Media Kenya Ltd (ZMKL). This subsidiary, functioning under Zee Entertainment UK Ltd (ZeeUL), aims to launch free-to-air (FTA) channels catering to Kenyan and East African audiences.
The newly formed ZMKL has been granted incorporation approval by the Kenyan registrar of companies. ZeeUL has invested 1,000 Kenyan shillings in ZMKL’s equity, with each share priced at 100 Kenyan shillings.

This strategic move by Zee Entertainment signifies the company’s ambitions to broaden its global reach. While the company streamlines its operations domestically, it seems to be placing a significant bet on the Kenyan and East African media landscape. The launch of FTA channels in the region is expected to bring Zee Entertainment’s diverse content portfolio to a wider audience.
Industry analysts are keen to see how Zee Entertainment tailors its programming to resonate with Kenyan and East African viewers. This expansion could potentially lead to exciting new content for audiences in the region and solidify Zee Entertainment’s position as a major international media player.
