YouTube is once again testing its 'Premium Lite' plan, offering a more affordable ad-free experience.

New Delhi: In a move that could disrupt the video streaming landscape, YouTube is reportedly testing a new version of its ‘Premium Lite’ plan, offering users a more affordable option with fewer ads.

According to reports, the plan is being rolled out to select countries, including Australia, Germany, and Thailand, where users may soon see the option to sign up. While details are still scarce, the ‘Premium Lite’ plan is expected to offer a lower price point compared to the full Premium subscription, which includes ad-free viewing, offline downloads, and background playback.

This isn’t the first time YouTube has experimented with a ‘Premium Lite’ plan. The company previously launched a similar offering in Europe, but it was discontinued in 2023. However, the recent testing suggests that YouTube may be revisiting the idea, potentially responding to user demand for a more affordable ad-free experience.

In India, YouTube recently increased the prices of its premium plans, which could make the ‘Premium Lite’ plan even more appealing to budget-conscious viewers. While the exact details of the new plan are still under wraps, it’s clear that YouTube is exploring ways to expand its user base and generate additional revenue.

As the video streaming market continues to evolve, it remains to be seen whether the ‘Premium Lite’ plan will become a permanent fixture on YouTube’s platform. If successful, it could offer a compelling alternative to traditional ad-supported viewing, giving users more choice and flexibility in how they consume content.
