New Delhi: In a move to ensure consumer protection, the Indian government is closely examining quick commerce companies to verify their adherence to mandatory disclosure requirements on packaged goods. The Legal Metrology Act, which mandates the display of essential product information on both online and offline sales, is being enforced to prevent any misleading practices.
Consumer Affairs Secretary Nidhi Khare highlighted the government’s scrutiny of these companies, stating that they are checking compliance with the act’s provisions. The act requires packaged goods to clearly display information such as the maximum retail price, expiration date, weight, manufacturer details, and consumer grievance addresses.
