New Delhi: The sixth edition of Sahitya Aaj Tak is set to transform Delhi’s Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium into a hub of literary brilliance from November 22 to 24. This year’s event promises to be even more special with the Honorable President of India, Droupadi Murmu, gracing the occasion to confer the prestigious ‘Aaj Tak Sahitya Jagriti Lifetime Achievement Award’ upon the legendary poet, lyricist, and filmmaker, Gulzar.
Gulzar, whose real name is Sampooran Singh Kalra, is a true icon of Indian literature and cinema. His works, including timeless classics like Raavi Paar, Raat, Chaand aur Main, and unforgettable films such as Aandhi, Mausam, and Maachis, have captivated audiences for generations. Born in 1934 in Dina village (now in Pakistan), Gulzar’s journey from humble beginnings to becoming a creative powerhouse is an inspiration to all.
This esteemed award recognizes Gulzar’s immense contributions to Indian literature and cinema. His exceptional talent has earned him numerous accolades, including the Padma Bhushan, the Dadasaheb Phalke Award, an Oscar, a Grammy, and the Sahitya Akademi Award. The ‘Aaj Tak Sahitya Jagriti Lifetime Achievement Award’ further solidifies his legacy as a literary giant.
The award ceremony, scheduled for November 23, will be a momentous occasion in India’s cultural calendar. President Murmu’s presence underscores the significance of this event and highlights the nation’s commitment to celebrating its rich literary heritage.

In addition to the Lifetime Achievement Award, Sahitya Aaj Tak will also recognize outstanding contributions in various categories, including Best Work (Male Author), Best Work (Female Author), Popular Author Award, Indian Language Literature Award, and Emerging Talent Award. A distinguished jury has carefully selected the winners, who will receive cash prizes, plaques, and citations.
