The draft bill aims to establish a regulatory framework for the broadcasting sector in India, encompassing traditional television and radio as well as newer on-demand streaming services. The initial draft, released in November 2023, solicited feedback on various aspects including content regulation, self-regulatory mechanisms, and potential registration requirements.
Following a series of consultations with industry associations and the public, the Ministry has received a significant number of recommendations. To ensure a comprehensive and inclusive regulatory framework, the Ministry is extending the consultation period until October 15, 2024. This extended window allows for additional public submissions and further stakeholder engagement.

The Ministry will consider all received feedback during the consultation period. A revised draft bill incorporating these considerations will be published for further review after October 15, 2024.
