New Delhi: Avenue Supermarts, the parent company of the popular discount retail chain DMart, announced that it has appointed Anshul Asawa as CEO designate. Asawa, who comes with nearly three decades of experience at Unilever, will assume the role effective March 15, 2025.
This appointment follows the completion of Ignatius Navil Noronha’s five-year term as managing director on January 31, 2026. Asawa is set to succeed Noronha as managing director and CEO from February 1, 2026, subject to shareholder approval.
Prior to joining Avenue Supermarts, Asawa held key leadership positions at Unilever in various countries, including India, the Netherlands, and the United Kingdom. Most recently, he served as Country Head for Thailand and General Manager for Greater Asia, Home Care.

During his 15-year tenure in India at Unilever, Asawa spearheaded key initiatives in sales, marketing, and distribution. He played a crucial role in digitizing the company’s operations and led the development of innovative products for the homecare category. Asawa is recognized for his strong consumer focus, commercial discipline, and ability to execute effectively in both urban and rural markets.
This appointment marks a significant transition for DMart, as Asawa brings a wealth of experience and a proven track record of success in the consumer goods industry. His leadership is expected to guide the company’s continued growth and expansion in the competitive Indian retail market.
