New Delhi: Amazon Prime Video has announced the promotion of Nikhil Madhok to the role of Head of India Originals. Madhok, who joined the streaming giant in September 2022 as the Head of Hindi Originals for Prime Video and Amazon Studios, will now oversee the entire slate of original content produced in India.
Nikhil Madhok’s career trajectory has been marked by significant contributions to the entertainment industry. Before joining Amazon Prime Video, he played a pivotal role at Disney+ Hotstar, where he led the original content division. As the driving force behind Hotstar Specials, Madhok was instrumental in the conception and launch of the platform’s original programming. Under his leadership, Disney+ Hotstar produced a series of acclaimed shows, including “Special Ops,” “Aarya,” “Criminal Justice,” “Human,” “Grahan,” and “Ghar Waapsi.”
Madhok’s expertise in content strategy and production was honed during his tenure at Disney Star. He joined Star India in 2011 as Vice President of Network Marketing, eventually rising to the position of Business Head before leaving in 2016. His stint at Discovery as Head of Products Asia Pacific further broadened his experience, where he managed Discovery’s suite of linear TV and digital products across the region.

Madhok’s career began at Unilever, where he served as Global Marketing Manager from 2005 to 2008. He then transitioned to Turner (now WarnerMedia) as Senior Director of Marketing, showcasing his versatility across various facets of the media and entertainment industry.
In his new role at Amazon Prime Video, Madhok is expected to leverage his extensive experience to expand and diversify the platform’s Indian original content portfolio. His promotion is seen as a strategic move by Amazon to strengthen its foothold in the competitive Indian streaming market, which is rapidly evolving with an increasing demand for localized content.
