India’s First Cement-Free Road Built in Bengaluru, Marks Breakthrough in Green Infrastructure

In a landmark development for India’s infrastructure and sustainability journey, Eco Path Innovations has successfully delivered two industry-first road projects in Bengaluru — including the country’s first cement-free cast-in-situ concrete road and a carbon-negative bituminous road. These projects signal a major shift in how infrastructure can be built in a country that is rapidly expanding while also facing increasing environmental pressure.

Cement-Free Road Challenges Conventional Construction Norms

The first milestone was achieved at the Army School in Bengaluru, where Eco Path constructed a road using completely cement-free concrete, replacing traditional materials with innovative alternatives. The use of fiberglass composite rebars instead of steel further strengthened the project’s sustainability profile.

The result was not just a functional road, but a measurable environmental win, with an estimated reduction of 34 tonnes of carbon emissions. More importantly, the road has been operational for over a year, proving that such alternatives are not experimental concepts but viable long-term solutions.

Carbon-Negative Road Sets New Industry Benchmark

In another groundbreaking achievement, Eco Path developed India’s first carbon-negative bituminous road at American Air Filters in Bengaluru. Unlike conventional road construction that adds to carbon emissions, this project managed to offset more carbon than it generated, resulting in a net negative footprint.

This shift from “less harmful” to “positively impactful” infrastructure represents a significant evolution in construction thinking, especially as global attention intensifies on climate responsibility.

A Timely Innovation for India’s Growth Story

India is currently witnessing one of the fastest infrastructure expansions in the world, with highways, urban development, and smart cities being built at scale. However, this growth comes with a critical challenge — balancing development with sustainability.

Eco Path’s projects arrive at a moment when the country is actively pushing towards net-zero goals. By reducing reliance on cement, conserving water, and minimizing the use of natural resources, such solutions offer a practical pathway for greener development.

Beyond Roads: Building a Low-Carbon Ecosystem

The company’s work extends beyond roads into broader infrastructure applications, including pavers, drainage systems, and external development works across multiple sectors. These solutions not only cut emissions but also eliminate the need for curing water, addressing another major environmental concern in construction.

Founder Sourabh Kumar emphasized that India’s infrastructure growth must align with sustainability, adding that the goal is to enable large-scale adoption of low-carbon construction practices across industries.

A Vision That Goes Beyond Innovation

With an ambitious target to help reduce 10 million tonnes of carbon emissions by 2030, Eco Path is positioning itself at the intersection of infrastructure and climate-tech. As sustainability moves from optional to essential, such innovations could play a defining role in shaping the future of construction in India.
