New Delhi: Reliance Retail, India’s largest retailer, is testing the waters of faster deliveries with a pilot program offering groceries and FMCG (Fast-Moving Consumer Goods) in one hour in select areas of Mumbai and Navi Mumbai. This move signifies Reliance’s entry into the competitive quick commerce space currently dominated by players like Blinkit, Swiggy Instamart, and Zepto.
The service, known as “hyperlocal delivery” on the JioMart app, aims to fulfill orders within an ambitious timeframe of one hour, gradually aiming to bring that down to 30-45 minutes as the network expands. This stands in contrast to Reliance’s current standard delivery window of 12 hours or more.
Unlike some competitors offering deliveries in as little as 10-15 minutes, Reliance is taking a different approach. Instead of focusing solely on rapid delivery, they’re looking to leverage their existing network of kirana stores (local neighborhood grocery stores) through the JioMart Partner program. This collaboration allows Reliance to integrate smaller stores with their backend system, offering quicker deliveries in areas with limited Reliance store presence.

Reliance is utilizing technology platforms like FYND and Locus to optimize the fulfillment process and delivery routes. This ensures efficient order picking and streamlined delivery schedules, ultimately leading to faster service for customers.
The pilot program represents a significant step for Reliance in the quick commerce space. While the initial focus is on groceries and FMCG products, the company hints at future expansion plans that could include hyperlocal deliveries for apparel and electronics. This broader product range caters to a wider customer base and could potentially position Reliance as a one-stop shop for quick and convenient deliveries.
This isn’t Reliance’s first foray into the quick delivery arena. The company reportedly launched a similar pilot program in Navi Mumbai last year, but it was ultimately shelved. This renewed attempt suggests Reliance’s commitment to capturing a share of the growing quick commerce market.
The success of this pilot program remains to be seen, but it certainly signals an exciting time for customers in Mumbai and Navi Mumbai who can expect a wider range of delivery options for their everyday needs.
