Parliamentary Panel to Scrutinize AI, Social Media, Fake News, and OTT Regulation

The Parliamentary Committee on Communications and Information Technology has announced its plans to review various aspects of the digital landscape, including AI, social media, fake news, OTT platforms, and cryptocurrency.
The committee will examine issues such as AI, social media, fake news, OTT platforms, and cryptocurrency.

New Delhi: In a significant move to address the rapid evolution of technology and its implications, the Parliamentary Committee on Communications and Information Technology has announced its plans to review various aspects of the digital landscape. The panel, chaired by BJP leader Nishikant Dubey, will delve into issues such as artificial intelligence (AI), social media, fake news, over-the-top (OTT) platforms, and cryptocurrency.

The committee’s mandate extends to examining the functioning of the ministries of information and broadcasting, electronics and information technology, and communications. It will also scrutinize the implementation of laws related to all forms of media and the performance of the public broadcaster, Prasar Bharati.

Given the increasing prevalence of digital and cyber crimes, the panel will also focus on regulating and monitoring these activities to protect citizens.

Key areas of focus for the committee include:

  • Cryptocurrency: The panel will examine the emergence of cryptocurrency in India and its potential implications for the economy.

As the digital world continues to evolve at a rapid pace, the Parliamentary Committee’s review is expected to provide valuable insights and recommendations for policymakers to navigate these challenges effectively.
