The event brought together an array of visionary leaders, policymakers, and changemakers, emphasizing the critical role of women in shaping India’s future. Distinguished guests at the summit included Shri Jagdeep Dhankhar, Hon’ble Vice-President of India, Dr. Justice D.Y. Chandrachud, Chief Justice of India, and Justice Indu Malhotra, Retired Judge and Senior Counsel at the Supreme Court of India.

The summit also featured an impressive lineup of speakers, including celebrities, sports icons, and leaders in various sectors, such as Kirron Kher (Actor and Former MP), Bhumi Pednekar (Actor), Padma Bhushan Usha Uthup (Singer), Nigar Shaji (Project Director of ISRO’s Aditya mission), and Lakshmi M Puri (Former UN Assistant Secretary-General and Ambassador of India), among others.

Empowering Women: A National Priority

In a special address, Hon’ble President of India, Smt. Droupadi Murmu, stressed the significance of women’s empowerment in nation-building. “Women are, in fact, the true manifestation of power. The real strength of our nation lies in the empowerment of women. Our women have always demonstrated resilience, strength, and courage, moving forward despite all obstacles,” said the President, reflecting on the essential role women play in India’s progress.

The Chief Justice of India, Dr. Justice D.Y. Chandrachud, touched upon the broader societal issues affecting women today, emphasizing the need for equal opportunities and dignity. He remarked that while there are sufficient legal provisions to safeguard women’s interests, a deeper cultural shift is necessary to bring about lasting change. “Stringent laws alone do not make for a just society. Above all, we need to change our mindset,” he added, advocating for a holistic approach to gender equality.

Vice-President’s Call for Change

Hon’ble Vice-President Shri Jagdeep Dhankhar delivered a compelling speech, calling for the evolution of mechanisms to support women’s empowerment. He addressed the misconception of women as the “weaker sex” and argued for a paradigm shift in societal perceptions. “Some people have the audacity to call women the weaker sex. They are terribly wrong. What happened over the ages has to change,” said Dhankhar. He also lauded the passage of the Women’s Reservation Bill in the Lok Sabha, calling it a revolutionary step that would ensure greater female representation in governance.

“There will be more women in policymaking, decision-making, and governance. They will bring to the table their huge experience,” he added, expressing hope for a future where women lead with equal authority and impact.
