New Delhi: Max Healthcare Chairman and Managing Director Abhay Soi has been recognized as one of India’s top individual taxpayers for the fiscal year 2022-23. The Income Tax Department, Mumbai, honored Soi for his significant contribution to the nation’s coffers.
Soi paid a staggering income tax of approximately ₹400 crore in the assessment year 2023-24, earning him the prestigious title of “Top Individual Tax Payer having gross tax payable > Rs 10 Lakhs.”
Expressing his gratitude, Abhay Soi emphasized that tax payment is not merely a legal obligation but a patriotic duty. He stated, “I am honored to receive this recognition. It reflects my commitment to India’s growth and development. Every citizen’s contribution is vital for nation-building.”
Soi, a first-generation entrepreneur, is credited with transforming Max Healthcare into one of India’s largest publicly listed hospital chains. The healthcare giant boasts a market capitalization exceeding USD 10 billion and operates a network of 20 hospitals with over 4000 beds. Notably, Max Healthcare sets aside 7.5% of its bed capacity for free services to underprivileged patients.

The Income Tax Department held its 165th Income Tax Day celebrations on July 24, commemorating the introduction of income tax in India in 1860. Maharashtra Governor Ramesh Bais graced the event, which honored top taxpayers in various categories.
This recognition underscores Soi’s dedication to corporate social responsibility and his role as a responsible citizen. His substantial tax contribution exemplifies the potential of high-net-worth individuals in supporting the nation’s progress.
