New Delhi: On National Press Day, Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw stressed the need for fair compensation for traditional news publishers, addressing issues such as algorithmic bias and fake news.
Speaking at the Press Council of India, Vaishnaw criticized the imbalance in bargaining power between digital platforms and traditional media, urging that news publishers be properly compensated for their investments in quality journalism, including journalist training and fact-checking.
Vaishnaw also raised concerns about the growing influence of biased algorithms on news consumption, which often prioritize sensational content over responsible reporting. He called for regulatory action to ensure platforms promote accurate and balanced information.
