Amazon Prime Video Lands Massive 11-Year NBA Deal

Amazon Prime Video and the NBA today unveiled an 11-year partnership, granting Prime Video exclusive global rights to 66 regular-season games starting in 2025.

New Delhi: In a groundbreaking move that promises to reshape the sports broadcasting landscape, Amazon Prime Video and the National Basketball Association (NBA) today announced an unprecedented 11-year media rights partnership. The deal, set to commence with the 2025-26 NBA season, will see Prime Video become the exclusive global home for a substantial portion of the league’s games.

A New Era of Basketball on Prime Video

Under the terms of the agreement, Prime Video will broadcast an exclusive 66 regular-season NBA games annually. This includes highly anticipated matchups like an opening week doubleheader, a newly created Black Friday game, and all games from the knockout rounds of the Emirates NBA Cup.

Adding to the postseason excitement, Prime Video will hold exclusive broadcast rights for every game of the high-stakes SoFi NBA Play-In Tournament, all first and second-round playoff games, and Conference Finals for six out of the eleven seasons covered by the agreement.

Global Expansion and Exclusive Content

The deal extends beyond the US, with Prime Video set to distribute an expanded package of games in select international markets including Mexico, Brazil, France, Italy, Spain, Germany, the United Kingdom, and Ireland. This expanded package features a minimum of 20 additional primetime regular-season games each year, a Conference Finals series annually, and the NBA Finals in six out of the 11 years.

In a strategic move, Prime Video Channels will become the exclusive global channels store destination for NBA League Pass, the league’s subscription service offering live and on-demand games.

Industry Leaders Unite

NBA Commissioner Adam Silver expressed enthusiasm about the partnership, highlighting Amazon’s digital prowess as a perfect match for the league’s global appeal. Mike Hopkins, head of Prime Video and Amazon MGM Studios, emphasized the deal’s role in solidifying Prime Video’s position as a comprehensive entertainment platform.

Jay Marine, global head of sports for Prime Video, expressed excitement about adding the NBA to the platform’s growing sports portfolio, which already includes the NFL, UEFA Champions League, NASCAR, NHL, WNBA, NWSL, Wimbledon, and more.

Prime Video to Deliver Enhanced Fan Experience

Prime Video’s NBA coverage will kick off with an opening week doubleheader in the 2025-26 season, followed by Friday night games, select Saturday afternoon games, and Thursday night doubleheaders starting in January 2026.

The platform plans to produce live pregame, postgame, and halftime shows, with talent and production details to be announced later. Additionally, Prime Video will stream half of all NBA Summer League games and a package of WNBA and NBA G League games.

The international live game package extends worldwide, excluding Greater China, Poland, Finland, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, and the Netherlands. Canadian rights will commence from the 2026-27 NBA season.

This landmark agreement marks a significant step forward for both the NBA and Amazon Prime Video, promising to deliver an unparalleled viewing experience for basketball fans worldwide.
